'Grey's Anatomy' Season 10 Spoilers: Jo and Alex Go Toe-to-Toe With Shane
When "Grey's Anatomy" returns at the end of February, Jo and Alex will go up against a common rival.
Camilla Luddington, who plays Jo, spoke to TVLine about their shared enemy.
"In the first episode back, which picks up right after the wedding, you see Jo being kind of a rock for Alex because he's furious about what Shane has done to his dad," explains Camilla Luddington. "He's distraught by it. And she's there for him. And she's also ready to go [toe-to-toe] with Shane. She hates Shane. She's not for him staying at the hospital. So you see her get closer to Alex through that."
Fans are also wondering when Jo will say "I love you" back to Alex (Justin Chambers), but Luddington has a feeling that she may have already said it, and viewers just haven't seen it.
"I almost get the impression that she has said it to him, it just hasn't been onscreen yet," she muses. "Maybe there will be a moment where we see her really declare her love for him, because we haven't seen it. But she's crazy about him. I think that she absolutely does love him."
At the end of February, fans will also know if the rest of the show's "originals" will stay with the series for another season or two. (Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo have already signed on for another two years.)
Also, TVLine reports that while showrunner Shonda Rhimes will have an "unorthodox" episode, the episode will not feature a flash-foward.
When the show resumes, viewers will also see Jo take care of a baby that she finds in an unlikely place: the trash. She will discover a baby in a discarded box, and will become attached to the child.
"Stephanie and Jo are out in the back of the hospital by the dumpsters, which is the new cool intern hangout, and Stephanie accidentally kicks a box, and there's a baby in it," Luddington told TVLine. "And so we find this dumpster baby, which, of course, is very difficult for Jo because she has abandonment issues. And she is not on the case, and she really wants to be working on it."
But as for Alex and Jo considering kids, Luddington said that isn't likely to happen very soon. "Do you think Jo and Alex are ready for kids?" Luddington said with a laugh. "They're still trying to figure themselves out."
The second half of the 10th season will also see the debut of Alex's father Jimmy's (James Remar) estranged wife, played by "Victorious" alum Susan Chuang. She will be lured to Grey Sloan Memorial under false pretenses, and will not be too happy with her husband.
Additionally, Paul James ("Greek") will join the cast this season in a potentially recurring role. His character will come to hospital to assist with research. James has also appeared on "Torchwood: Miracle Day," "CSI: NY" and "Shameless."
The next episode of "Grey's Anatomy" airs Thursday, Feb. 27 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
