Sochi Winter Olympics Women’s Luge Singles Live Stream and Results, 9:45 a.m. EST; Natalie Geisenberger Expected To Dominate
All eyes will be on Natalie Geisenberger as the women's luge singles competition of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics kicks off on Monday, 9:45 a.m. EST, at the Sanki Sliding Center.
Geisenberger will look to improve from her bronze medal finish during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and the 26-year-old German looks poised to rule the event based on her recent performance.
The reigning luge singles world champion has been a dominating presence in the luge women's circuit over the past two years. In the current world cup season, Geisenberger ruled all but one singles competition she entered in, losing to teammate Tatjana Huefner in Oberhof, Germany in January.
Geisenberger, who has won a total of 18 world cup and world championship races over the past four years, knows that she is heavily favored to win, but the German luge star said that a win in Sochi will be just be a bonus.
"I had two goals when I was a child: the world champion title and an Olympic medal. I have both. What comes now is a bonus. I know I can slide and I can start and my sled is good and my lines are pretty good," Geisenberger said in an Associated Press interview via Daily Journal.
Meanwhile, American skiing fans will turn their attention to Erin Hamlin and Kate Hansen. No American has won a luge singles medal at the Olympics, but the Americans are pinning their hopes on Hamlin and Hansen.
Hansen recently became the first American to win a singles luge event when she won the last World Cup race of the season in Sigulda last month.
Hamlin, on the other hand, will compete in her third Olympics and will look to improve from her 12th and 16th place finish during the 2006 and 2010 Winter Games in Turin and Vancouver, respectively.
The first two singles runs are scheduled at 9:45 a.m. and 11:20 a.m. EST, respectively. Live stream of the event will be available at NBC Olympics Live Extra, while the complete start list can be viewed at the official website of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. The medal races will be on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. EST.
