Sochi Winter Olympics Freestyle Skiing Women’s Moguls Finals Live Stream & Results, 1 p.m.; Hannah Kearney Goes For Gold
The first set of medals for the freestyle skiing event will be handed out today as the 20 qualifiers vie for the gold medal in the women's mogul on Saturday afternoon starting 1 p.m. EST.
Hannah Kearney of Team USA leads the pack and will head into the finals as a heavy favorite to win the event after topping the qualification round with 23.05 points after a near-flawless routine on Thursday.
Kearney, who has been through major injuries like a torn ACL and broken ribs, will look to become the first freestyle skier to bag multiple Olympic gold medals, and the 27-year-old skier is confident that she can defend the title she won during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
"I want to stand in that start gate and have full confidence that I'm going to lay down a good run, and for me that comes from knowing that I did exactly 1,022 jumps into a pool this summer to practice" Kearney said in a CBS Sports interview.
But while Kearney is oozing with confidence heading into the finale, three Canadian siblings are expected to give the American mogul skier a run for her money.
All three Dufour-Lapointe sisters advanced to Saturday's finals. Chloe Dufour-Lapointe finished second in the qualifying round with 22.64 points, Justine ended up second with 22.28 points, while Maxime ended up in eighth place with 20.88 points.
Another Canadian, Audrey Robichaud qualified after scoring 20.61, which is good for ninth place. Team Canada coach Marc-Andrew Moreau is confident that all four will perform well on Saturday, saying that all of them are capable of dethroning Kearney.
"All four are capable of winning a medal," Moreau told The Toronto Sun. "If they do what they have to do then they all have the potential to get on the podium."
