NBA Free Agents 2014: Boston Celtics All-Star Rajon Rondo Intrigued by Free Agency
Rajon Rondo previously expressed his desire to continue playing for the Boston Celtics for the next few years, but the NBA All-Star point guard made an interesting statement when asked recently about his free agency plans.
In an interview with ESPN Boston published Friday, Rondo said that while he has yet to make up his mind on whether to test free agency in 2015 or not, he admitted that he is intrigued by certain aspects of becoming a free agent.
"It's kind of like, I would say, maybe college recruiting," Rondo said. "I'm pretty sure a lot more goes into it in the NBA. A lot more money is spent. I've heard stories, guys getting called right at midnight. It's something that I haven't experienced. I may want to go through it. I haven't thought about it at all."
Rondo recently turned down a contract extension offered by the Celtics, but he quashed rumors suggesting that he is leaning towards leaving Boston once his current contract expires.
The 27-year-old point guard insisted that he is open to spending the next 10 years of his career in Boston, but quickly added that his contract status is not bothering him at this point, saying that he is focused on getting his old form back.
"I don't like change much. I wouldn't mind staying here the rest of my career. Things don't always seem to go that way, but like I said before, it's just a business. I wouldn't mind extending another 10 years in Boston," Rondo said in a recent interview.
Rondo is coming off a one-year layoff after sustaining an ACL tear in his right knee. The former Kentucky standout has played in six games this season, averaging 6.7 points and 5.7 assists in 24.3 minutes per game.
While his current numbers are not as impressive as his productions before sustaining the major knee injury, the eighth-year veteran playmaker is expected to draw lots of interest in the coming weeks before the trade deadline.
Recent reports suggested that the New York Knicks, who are looking desperate to add another superstar to convince Carmelo Anthony to stay, appear to have the strongest interest in dealing for Rondo.
