Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn News: Release Date for PS4 Version of Game Announced
Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will be coming to the PlayStation 4 on April 14, according to Square Enix, and the Collector's Edition of the game will be released on the same date.
News of the release date comes from a live letter from the producer that was hosted by Dualshockers, in which Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn's director, Naoki Yoshida, announced the release date and that the PlayStation 4 will have a unique version of the Collector's Edition of the game. While most of the PlayStation 4 Collector's Edition features are the same as the PC and PlayStation 3 versions of the game, the next gen Collector's Edition will come with a Wind-Up Moogle Companion and a Fat Chocobo mount.
It was previously rumored that Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn would be launched on the PlayStation 4 sometime in April, however, this is the first time that Square Enix has confirmed the exact date for when the next-gen version of the game will appear. Those who wish to try out the game early can do so by joining the beta program for the game, which is scheduled to start on Feb. 22.
To encourage sales, Square Enix is allowing users who have the PlayStation 3 version of the game upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version free of charge when it comes out. While many games such as Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Call of Duty: Ghosts offer an upgrade plan for users switching from the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 to their next-gen equivalents, those games require paying fees to upgrade. Square Enix is one of the few video game publishers allowing users to upgrade their games for free, and the offer definitely should be taken advantage of for those who already have the console version of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn.
The original Final Fantasy 14's launch is legendary for its poor reception. The game came with so many bugs and glitches that many found the it to be unplayable. Eventually, Square Enix made the decision to shut down the game entirely and restart, and that is how A Realm Reborn came to be. The game is already available to play on the PC and PlayStation 3.
