Valentine's Day Home-Made Dinner Recipes
Nothing says "I love you" better than a home-made meal.
Even though it is not an official holiday, Valentine's Day is an event that no one would dare miss.
In fact, people go through so much hassle just to make this day better than any other holiday since it is a day focused on showcasing their love for their better half.
Another fact about Valentine's Day is that it always has to be celebrated with food.
It may have skipped your attention but one thing you should notice is that almost all restaurants, grills, bars and fast food chains are full on this day.
So why spend so much money and effort on making a reservation at a fancy restaurant if you can redirect you cash and energy towards making a tasty treat for your significant other at home?
LGabi Moskowitz of the BrokeAssGourmet.com considers Valentine's Day a food day, which is why she shared an easy-to-make pasta that is a perfect meal to share between two people on the day of hearts over on the Washington Post.
Lemon Pappardelle
What You'll Need:
- 3 egg yolks
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2/3 cup half-and-half
- 1 lemon, zest and juice (a small amount of zest can be used for garnish)
- 8 ounces fresh or dried pappardelle (can also be replaced with linguine, fettuccine, or other wide, long-strand pasta)
- 1/8 cup toasted almonds, chopped
- A handful of fresh parsley, finely chopped
- salt and pepper, to taste
How to Make It
1. Toss in the lemon zest, half-and-half, garlic, egg yolks and lemon juice in a heatproof bowl. Mix them together with salt and pepper. You may also do this in the top part of a double broiler.
2. Place the heatproof bowl over a pot of boiling water.
3. Whisk until the mixture's consistency thickens and reaches a pale yellow color. Then, smooth the sauce for about 3 to 7 minutes depending on the size of the bowl used.
4. Remove from heat and set aside.
5. Boil salted water in a larger pot and cook pappardelle (or the pasta of your choice). You may follow the instructions included on the pasta's packaging.
6. Toss in the sauce with the pappardelle as soon as the pasta is cooked.
7. Plate the pasta and top each serving with chopped parsley, almonds, lemon zest and pepper according to your preference.
