Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare News: Release Date Delayed for Game [Trailer]
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare was scheduled for release on Feb. 18 in North America, but it appears fans will have to wait a little longer than expected to play the new game. The latest entry in the franchise has been delayed until one week later, according to IGN.
Garden Warfare is now set for release on Feb. 25. This delay also affects the European release of the game. Garden Warfare will not arrive in Europe until Feb. 27. The PC version of the game does not yet have a release date.
While it is disappointing that the game has been delayed, having the game pushed back by only a week is more of a sign of quality control from Popcap and EA than an indiction something is seriously wrong with the game. Perhaps the companies are making sure the game is balanced properly or ensuring that the variety of maps are as good as possible.
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare takes the tower defense mechanics found in the two main games of the series and adds third-person shooter elements inspired by the Battlefield series to the franchise. The multiplayer-only game allows users to choose either the plants or the zombies and wage war on each other using the two sides. The game is completely over the top as players will be able to use corn cannons to call in artillery strikes on each other and use special powers that will add a unique blend of mayhem to the somewhat stale third-person shooter genre.
So far the game has only been confirmed for the Xbox consoles and the PC, but there have been rumors that the game could appear on the PlayStation 4 as well. Specially, Microsoft has referred to the game as a "timed exclusive," meaning that at some point Popcap and EA could reach an agreement with Sony to port the game over to their consoles as well.
The Plants vs. Zombies series has been a huge hit for developer Popcap Games and publisher EA Games, and the latest entry in the series, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, looks to become one of the sleeper hits of 2014 on the Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
