The Rolling Stones' Latin American Tour Starts in Chile [Details]
The Rolling Stones are not done being rock gods just yet. On Wednesday night, the group started their America Latina Ole Tour at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile, with a 19-song set packed full with their classic sound.
They kicked off the party with "Start Me Up" and finished with "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction."
The group did not disappoint, either. They may be in their late 60s and 70s, but they were able to use their decades of experience to show Chile what it's like to be rock legends. The Daily Mail pointed out that Mick Jagger, who is now 72 years old, proved that he still has the energy to be the center of a large event, plunging into the set with band members Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Charlie Watts.
Chile is only the first stop on their South American tour, which will go on for over a month. It will end with a two-night stint in Mexico City on March 14 and 17. Still, fans are already talking about their set music.
Rolling Stone (the magazine, not the band) even noted that their Chilean concert marked the first time in 18 years that they played "She's a Rainbow."
The choice to play the rare song was not random -- the group asked their fans to pick from four pieces for the evening's request portion, and "She's a Rainbow" won the most votes.
Of course, choosing to play the song is not the only surprise in store. They also had a new back-up vocalist, Sasha Allen, who was in the fourth season of hit reality show, "The Voice."
Argentina will be the next country on their list of stopovers. The Ole Tour will continue with a three-night stand in Estadio Unico in Argentina on February 7.
For USA Fans, don't worry: Keith Richards noted that he's open to the idea of playing in the US, but said that it depends on how the rest of the group feels.
Finally, Entertainment Weekly noted that last year, Richards confirmed a new collection to be recorded after the tour. The upcoming project will be their first release in over a decade: their last album was "A Bigger Bang" which was released in stores back in 2005.
The plans are not definite, but even back then Richards noted, "I'm trying to get the Stones into the studio. But I don't quite honestly see it happen this year. After we do South America in February and March, I'd love to get in the studio in April. But I know what those guys are like. When they finish a tour, they don't want to do nothing!"
