The Last of Us DLC News: 'Left Behind' Single-Player DLC Previewed by Naughty Dog
The Last of Us was one of the best games of 2013, and fans have been waiting patiently for news about the single-player DLC developer Naughty Dog promised. Now, IGN has a preview of the forthcoming DLC that focuses on one of the main characters from the game, Ellie.
The DLC, "Left Behind," will further explore the past of Ellie before the events of the main game. This includes her time at the boarding school in the quarantine zone with her friend Riley. Yaani King, the voice actress for Riley, who first appeared in the comic spinoff for The Last of Us, "American Dream," described the relationship her character and Ellie share.
"[Riley] has an extremely strong personality, very driven, very confident for a 16-year-old, and she is Ellie's best friend. They are quarantined together in this boarding school and became really close...She's also a mentor to Ellie... and helps her explore and see different sides of the world that they live in, and doesn't really like following authority blindly. She's not interested in just doing whatever it is she's being told. So that's what pushes her in the direction to kind of become a Firefly," King told IGN.
Because Ellie is the playable character for Left Behind instead of main protagonist Joel, the DLC will play differently from the main game. This is reflected in the story of the DLC as well, which focuses on Ellie and Riley trying to find a way to explore the world outside of the quarantine zone. King mentioned how this new content for The Last of Us allows users to see a different side of Ellie that is more carefree and warm.
"What I can say is that there are moments in the DLC where you get to really learn the personalities and the heart of who these two girls are to each other through the adventures that they have...And there are some really fun, new, fresh dynamics and content that [is] in this that you don't necessarily see in the original game which I think add to who they are and who Riley is," she said.
It is unclear when this new DLC will become available for The Last of Us owners. However, Naughty Dog has stated that the DLC will be available for $14.99 whenever it is released for the PlayStation 3.
