iOS vs. Android vs. Windows Phone Market Share in France: Microsoft Narrows Gap Against Apple iOS; Google No. 1, Says Kantar
Apple's iOS platform might encounter competition in its smartphone operating system market share in France. Microsoft saw an increase in usage of its Windows Phone operating system in the country.
According to Kantar Worldpanel, Microsoft's Windows Phone platform improved its market share rank from fourth place to third. Windows Phone saw an increase of 8.7 percentage points when comparing the three months ending in November 2013 and the same period in 2012.
For the Microsoft smartphone operating system platform, Windows Phone finished November 2013 with 12.9 percent, which is an increase of 4.2 percent in 2012. The percentage increase for Windows Phone narrowed the gap against iOS to 5.7 percentage points, which is a drastic drop from the 19 percent difference in 2012.
iOS ranked at second place. The Apple smartphone operating system saw a decline in its market share by 4.6 percentage points. iOS accounted for 18.6 percent of the market share, which is down from the 23.2 percent during the three months ending in November 2012.
Google Android easily maintained first place. In France, the Android platform saw an increase in its market share by 4.9 percentage points. Android finished the three months ending in November 2013 with 65.5 percent of the market share. During the previous year, the Android platform garnered 60.6 percent of the market share.
BlackBerry fell from third place to fourth place following a decline of 2.2 percentage points. BlackBerry finished November 2013 with 2.2 percent of the market share, which is down from the 4.4 percent during the three-month period ending in November 2012.
