Golden Globes 2016: Eva Longoria & America Ferrera Take A Jab at Last Year's Gaffe Over Latina Actresses
The winners have finally been revealed in the recent Golden Globes 2016, but Latina beauties America Ferrera and Eva Longoria also definitely won the night with their hilarious spoof of last year's infamous Golden Globes Twitter gaffe.
The pair made a tongue-in-cheek jab at how Latina stars are often mistaken for one another. Before the duo presented the Golden Globe award for best actor in a TV series drama to "Mad Men" leading man Jon Hamm, they had quite a few reminders for everyone tuning in to the show.
Upon taking the stage, the stunning ladies introduced themselves to the Golden Globes 2016 viewers to avoid any sort of confusion. "Yes, hi, I'm Eva Longoria, not Eva Mendes," the star said.
The audience responded with a riotous laugh as Ferrera took her turn and said, "And hi, I'm America Ferrera, not Gina Rodriguez."
"And neither of us are Rosario Dawson," Longoria added.
"Nope. Well said, Salma," Ferrera quipped.
"Thank you, Charo," Longoria, not Mendes, said in response, sending the celebrities taking part in the night's festivities roaring with laughter.
The gag was in reference to last year's unforgettable "oops" moment where the Golden Globes Twitter account confused Ferrera with "Jane the Virgin" lead star Gina Rodriguez, who also expressed some amusement toward the little skit.
In addition, before the two took the stage, Golden Globes 2016 host Ricky Gervais alluded to Ferrera and Longoria's heritage to poke fun at presidential candidate Donald Trump.
"Eva Longoria and America Ferrera are not just talented actresses, they are also two people that your future president, Donald Trump, can't wait to deport," the host said as he called them to the stage.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ferrera talked about how she is often misidentified as other Latina stars, such as Gina or Michelle Rodriguez, and even singer Selena Gomez.
"Basically anyone who's Latina. People just look at me and go, 'I think she's vaguely famous -- she's definitely the one famous Latina who I might know," the "Superstore" star said.
Unfortunately, the epically funny Golden Globes 2016 moment resulted in another Twitter issue, this time involving MTV Australia, who sent out a tweet asking where the subtitles are because they have "no idea" what Ferrera and Longoria are saying.
As per Us Weekly, the tweet was deleted after backlash from Twitter users that described the remark as "racist" and "offensive." MTV Australia has since apologized.
