Broken Age News: Act 1 of Double Done Adventure Game Coming to Kickstarter Backers Jan. 14

One of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns in the website's history was for the Double Fine game Broken Age, where fans raised $3.3 million dollars in 2012 for the game to get produced. After a lengthy development period (compounded by the game's larger budget allowing for a larger game split into 2 parts) it appears as though Broken Age Act 1 will be arriving to Kickstarter backers on Jan. 14.

This was confirmed by a Twitter post from Double Fine founder Tim Schafer, who revealed on Jan. 10 that the game would be coming out on Jan. 14 and that Schafer is excited to bring the first part of Broken Age to fans:

"Haven't shipped a game of my own in 4.5 years, an adventure game in 16, a point-n-click in almost 20. Next Tuesday is going to be exciting!"

Originally when the game first came to Kickstarter in 2012, Double Fine was looking for $400,000 to fund the game. When the campaign ended and Double Fine find themselves with $3.3 million in funding, the developer decided to expand the game considerably, which had the unfortunate side effect of delaying the game somewhat. Because of this display, Double Fine split the game into two parts, which Kickstarter backers getting the game through Steam Early Access before it is released to regular gamers. It is unclear when Act 1 will get a wider release and when Act 2 can be expected to be released.

Broken Age is a point and click adventure in the game in the same vein of classic games such as The Secret of Monkey Island, another Tim Schafer game. The game follows two separate characters as they attempt to escape the life that they have. One character is a young boy who lives in a house run by a maternal AI, and the other character is a young girl who is set to be sacrificed to a monster. The game will have an all-star voice cast featuring Jack Black, Elijah Wood, and Wil Wheaton in various roles in the game.
Fans of the game have been waiting quite some time to get their hands on Broken Age, and soon those who put their faith in Double Fine and donated to their Kickstarter campaign. Look out for more news about Broken Age Act 1 as the game is released to Kickstarter backers and fans get their first taste of the point and click adventure game.
