Fall Out Boy & Demi Lovato Reunite NSync in New Music Video
In the year 2000, boy bands were all the rage, and *N Sync became their own action figures in the now-famous music video for "It's Gonna Be Me".
Who knew that more than fifteen years later (yes, it's been a decade and a half) another boy band and their female friend will get together to make a sort of sequel music video to that turn-of-the-century song?
Punk rock band Fall Out Boy teamed up with former Disney star Demi Lovato to spoof *N Sync's now classic music video, and make it their own for "Irresistible."
Unlike the pop sensation of the early 00's however, the punk rock band are outcast dolls tossed aside in a toy store -- the same toy store from where the *N Sync dolls were sold years ago! They break out of their little discarded doll boxes to play their music and are then discovered by Lovato, in a "Toy Story" sort of way.
Fall Out Boy has been known for their quirky videos (have you watched "The Young Blood Chronicles" for their "Save Rock and Roll" album?), but what made them think of doing a sort of analog to a fifteen-year-old song?
The band wrote on their website about their decision to pay homage to the teen pop sensation, explaining, "I was looking back at the video for 'it's gonna be me' - where they come to life as dolls -- and we thought was there an analog to this story?"
They continued, "Like somewhere in that same store was there a dollar bin full of toy that no one really wanted? That would band together like the misfit, offbrand little outsiders they were. The toys no one ever wanted come to life. Where would our band have fit in that story?"
But how did FOB pull together the video? The Hollywood Life noted that the band enlisted the director of the original "It's Gonna Be Me" video, Wayne Isham, and he took charge of FOB's version. Plus, *N Sync is totally on board because the very real band members, Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone, made their own cameos in "Irresistible" as well.
In case you couldn't tell, Chris was the one with Demi packing up the toys in the opening, while Joey was the store clerk who tossed the FOB dolls aside and evil-laughed at their toy faces as he held up his own action figure in front of them.
