Peru President Ollanta Humala Inaugurates Program Aimed to Assist Babies & Toddlers
Peru's President Ollanta Humala inaugurates the "Gamarra" Comprehensive Assistance Children Center (CIAI) in a bid to promote progress, particularly in the country's underprivileged districts.
A report from Andina revealed how Humala participated in the inauguration ceremony for the project that is aimed at providing "comprehensive assistance" to children from 36 months of age to 6 years.
Thanks to the proposal from the Gamarra Commerce Emporium childcare service unit, underprivileged children will be brought closer to achieving cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.
This, among others, is proof that the Peruvian government is taking action to provide a better way of life for the people, particularly for those who live in the country's poor districts.
"We are going to support La Victoria and every district of Lima, so they can continue moving forward; especially those that require more attention from State. That's where we need to be," a top Peruvian official told Andina.
The CIAI project is set to provide poor families access to "safe and modern center for babysitting during work hours," which is very helpful considering that Gamarra, or the Gamarra Commercial Emporium, is Lima's biggest textile outlet, with over 17 thousand stores all over the district.
According to Proyecto Gamarra, the Emporium has been linked to "disorganized commercial force, disorderly transport, disregard for labor laws, abandonment of quality in the textile productive chain and with delinquency in the neighboring areas."
Despite this, it maintains its image as the biggest job provider in the locality, and is said to house "diverse histories of migration, entrepreneurship and success."
Thousands of people flock to Gamarra daily because of the Emporium's affordable prices.
Now that the "Gamarra" Comprehensive Assistance Children Center has been inaugurated, Andina sees an improvement in the lives of thousands of residents in the La Victoria district.
The project involved an estimated investment cost of about US$1.78 million that was spent on constructing the infrastructure and filling it with the necessary equipment for safe and productive childcare.
Meanwhile, the Head of State also inaugurated the "Inca Garcilaso de la Vega" sports complex that has a Taekwondo ring, swimming pool, box, basketball, volleyball, tennis courts and a skate park as well as a dressing room.
The establishment of the sports complex, says Humala, will help promote sports to Peruvian residents, as well as to give them a place to bond with their families.
Other political figures who graced both events included Social Inclusion Minister Paola Bustamante; Housing, Construction and Sanitation Ministers Francisco Dumler Cuya; Labor and Employment Promotion Minister Daniel Maurate; and Finance and Economy Minister Alonso Segura.
