2016 Book Releases: 5 Celebrity Memoirs to Catch Next Year
In 2016, highly-anticipated memoirs from celebrities and personalities will be released. Oprah Winfrey's memoir, which is considered the highest book deal in recent years, won't be due until January 2017.
But the coming year has so much to offer, too. So for those planning to stock up with some good life stories from the most recognizable faces in Hollywood, here is a list of books you should look out for.
1. The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo" by Amy Schumer (late 2016)
Many publishers fought to acquire the "Train Wreck" star's upcoming memoir, allegedly titled "The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo," but it was Gallery Books that ultimately won the bid for $8-10 million, as per Entertainment Weekly.
The publisher told Associated Press that the hilarious memoir will "offer personal and observational stories from Schumer that range from the raunchy to the romantic, the heartfelt to the harrowing." Schumer guaranteed via E Online that with the memoir, "people are going to know everything about me."
2. Taraji P. Henson (mid-2016)
According to New York Times, the Oscar-nominated "Empire" star is ready to share stories about her rough childhood in a Washington neighborhood, and her struggles as a single parent before making it big in Hollywood. This is an untitled memoir to be published by Simon & Schuster imprint, 37 Ink.
3. "Leonard: A 50 Year Friendship" by William Shatner (Feb. 16)
As per IGN, Shatner will celebrate his indelible friendship with the late actor in a memoir he wrote about him titled "Leonard: A 50 Year Friendship." It will be released on Feb. 16, which is roughly a year after the actor's death.
Shatner, who played James T. Kirk in the original sci-fi series and movies, will recount the good and the rough times he shared with the adored legend, who everyone knew and loved as Mr. Spock. The book is now on pre-order on Amazon.
4. "Macca: The Life of Paul McCartney" by Philip Norman (Jun. 9)
This artist-approved memoir recounts how the former Beatles' member and celebrated multi-instrumentalist, coped with his mother's death when he was a kid, how his father introduced him to music, his life in the limelight and his near-death experiences.
There will also be stories about McCartney's love-hate musical relationship with fellow Beatles member John Lennon, and the lyrical magic they achieved as a duo.
5. "Porcelain" by Moby
This memoir is titled after his most notable song of the same name, released in 1999. According to Factmag, the book will relive the first 10 years of the career of the musician, who, for the uninitiated, is related to revered "Moby Dick" author Herman Melville.
Award-winning novelist Salman Rushdie vouches for the book saying, "The writing is terrific, enlivened by a deadpan humor that makes crazy sense of it all. His ancestor Herman Melville would, I think, be simultaneously revolted and proud."
