Timbaland Releases Never-Before-Heard Aaliyah Song [Listen]
Timbaland once teased everyone that he would release a never-before-heard song of the late singer, Aaliyah. True to his words, the 43-year-old star gave everyone a perfect gift, as he launched his mixtape, "King Stays King," on Christmas day, featuring the song "Shakin," by the lost songstress.
"Aaliyah.. This is for you baby," Timbaland wrote on Twitter on Dec. 24, along with a link to the track. It has been known that the departed dancer worked with the record producer for her greatest hits, like "Try Again," "Are You That Somebody?," and "I Am Music" throughout her musical career, according to Entertainment Weekly.

To recall, Timbaland got irritated when other singers, like Chris Brown and Drake, when they released their collaboration songs, "Don't Think They Know" and "Enough Said," featuring Aaliyah's voice in 2013. "People always say, 'I'm going to do a song with Aaliyah.' It will never work. Chris Brown got a record, it won't work. Drake can go do a record with Aaliyah, it ain't gonna work. Aaliyah music only work with its soulmate, which is me" he told Revolt TV.
Billboard reported the DJ's mixtape also features other artists, like Young Thug, Migos, Rich Homie Quan, Tink and 2 Chainz. This album works just as a sneak peek for his upcoming full LP, "Textbook Timbo," which will be released early next year.
Timbaland and emcee Strado, made Aaliyah alive again through her music. Once again, her fans will hear her laid-back voice for the song that has 90s touch, about a man who kept her "shakin'" in love. It has been quite awhile since the rapper teased everyone about the unreleased single, as noted by Vanity Fair.
"People ask me all the time do I have any babegirl music we haven't heard!!!!! Well, the answer is YES!!!!!!!!" he said. It just evidently showed that Timbaland was the keeper of all Aaliyah's unveiled projects.
The relationship between the two rappers was more than just professional. They also had a personal connection, even after the "Rock the Boat" hitmaker's demised, with Timbaland revealing just a few years ago, that he's indeed in love with Aaliyah.
"When I first met Aaliyah-it time for the world to hear this, I'm gonna give a little secret-I was in love with her," Timbaland told E!'s True Hollywood Story. "I said, 'But I'm not...' She just a baby, I'm old. I said to myself, 'I'm just gonna be her brother.' Oh man, I was fightin', I was fightin' a lot-a big war. But I loved Aaliyah."
