'The Chronicles of Riddick' Star Vin Diesel Spill Details on Sequel
Vin Diesel hints at "Riddick" follow up movie "Furia," which would tackle the origins of his dark, sci-fi anti-hero role.
In an unannounced live video, the action star revealed the film's theme to his more than 200,000 Facebook followers, whom he adoringly calls 'angels.'
"Are you guys excited to hear about Furia? Do you want to know where it all began with that dark character Riddick? ... I dunno if 'Furia' is rated R, it might be a little more expansive in its mythology," he explained on Tuesday with his special guest, "Riddick" mastermind David Twohy.
In the clip, Twohy, who was responsible for the first, but less popular film "Pitch Black," bluntly chimed in: "It'll be rated R."
Unfortunately, the video was fed to the social media platform live, so it is no longer available for watching.
This news comes a month after the "Guardians of the Galaxy" voice talent uploaded a snippet from a previous "Riddick" film on Instagram, where he revealed that a new movie for the franchise is in the works.
According to Cinema Blend, "Furia," would be the fourth movie of the entire franchise following the 2013 flick "Riddick," which earned $100 million in that year.
Aside from "Furia," Cinema Blend notes that Diesel has so many projects ahead of him, which is mostly comprised of sequels including "Fast 8," the third "xXx" film and Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," where he is set to lend his voice again to the lovable tree, Groot.
According to Superhero Hype, he is also set to begin filming for "Merc City," "a companion TV series" that will be co-produced by the actor's production company, One Race Television, in partnership with Universal Television.
"In addition to being a huge star for our feature division, Vin is a true creative force as a producer. After sitting down with him and his team at One Race Television, it's clear he will now also be an incredible asset to both the network and our television studio," NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said in a press release cited by the outlet.
Diesel founded One Race in 1995 and has produced four high-grossing films, all from the "Fast & Furious" franchise: "Furious 7," "Fast and Furious 6," "Fast Five," and "Fast & Furious."
His production company is also responsible for all three of the previous science-fiction thrillers in the "Riddick" franchise, which apparently will be extended further to the gaming world with the first-person action and stealth video game, "Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay."
