'Final Fantasy 7' Remake: Game's Story Will Also Be Altered? [Release Date, Gameplay & What We Know So Far]
Gamers waiting for the "Final Fantasy 7" remake should expect a whole new game when it comes out probably five years from now.
According to Kotaku, game developer Square Enix has recently announced that the upcoming remake will not only be a single game but "an episodic series."
It explained that each game in the series would be "full-sized" and could be sold at $60 a pop. The episodes are expected to tell an expanded version of the original game's storyline when combined.
On the Square Enix blog, producer Yoshinori Kitase noted that it was an effort to "reconstruct Final Fantasy VII from the ground up with the current technology."
"Producing a proper HD remake of FINAL FANTASY VII that maintains the same feeling of density of the original would result in a volume of content that couldn't possibly fit into one instalment," added Kitase.
He added that a lot of people had the correct in thinking that the remake would come as a multipart series.
"If we were to try to fit everything from the original into one remake installment, we would have to cut various parts and create a condensed version of FINAL FANTASY VII. We knew none of you would have wanted that," the game producer said.
Gamespot noted that the multi-part format of the game will allow the game publisher to expand the story and bring in better gameplay for gamers.
Kitase expressed concern that if they tried to fit the game into just one release, it would compromise a lot of important parts.
"We would have to cut various parts and create a condensed version of Final Fantasy 7. We knew none of you would have wanted that ... I hope that by explaining a little more about our design decisions that you can appreciate the size of this project and what we have planned for this remake," he explained.
The "Final Fantasy 7" remake was confirmed during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last June.
The release date of the remake is still unconfirmed, but Engadget said game developers announced the remake after announcing "Final Fantasy XV" was announced to come to the PS4.
An earlier Kotaku report added that there is also the possibility for the remake to be launched for PC and Xbox One. Although PlayStation third-party developer relations head Adam Boyes has yet to confirm these rumors.
"We'll be disclosing that to everyone before the game comes out, so everyone will know," Boyes noted.
