Microsoft's Windows Phone platform has finally hit double-digit figures in the smartphone operating system market share across the pond based on new figures by Kantar Worldpanel.
According to figures for the three months ending in November 2013, the Windows Phone platform encountered the highest market share growth compared to rivals Apple, BlackBerry, and Google.
The Microsoft smartphone operating system accounted for 10.8 percent of the market share once November concluded. The percentage for Windows Phone is an increase of 5.7 percentage points from the 5.1 percent it originally accounted for during the three-month period ending in November 2012.
Despite the hefty increase for Windows Phone, the Microsoft platform ranked at third place behind Google and Apple, respectively. Windows Phone was able to improve from fourth place as BlackBerry slipped from third.
Google Android comfortably maintained first place in the United Kingdom's smartphone operating system market share figures. Android saw the second-highest market share growth with 4.2 percentage points. With the percentage increase, Android upheld first place with 55.7 percent, which is up from the 51.5 percent during the three-month period in 2012.
Apple's iOS platform held second place despite suffering the worst market share loss during the three-month period ending in November 2012 and November 2013. iOS fell by 5.5 percentage points. Although the drop was the heaviest among the top four operating systems gathered by Kantar Worldpanel, Apple maintained second place with 30.6 percent, which is down from the 36.1 percent during the three months ending in November 2012.
BlackBerry fell from third place to fourth following a 4.1 percentage point drop. BlackBerry finished the three months ending in November 2013 with 2.4 percent, which is down from the 6.5 percent from the same period in 2012.
