'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Update: Harrison Ford Shares His Thoughts on Being Han Solo in Episode 7

Harrison Ford digs deep and shares what made him decide to reprise the role of Han Solo in the upcoming December flick, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Han Solo is one of the legendary characters in all of the Star Wars Extended Universe and is portrayed by no less than a legendary actor.

According to Screen Rant, many did not think that Ford, who is now 73 years old, would be returning as Han Solo in Episode 7 of the intergalactic saga, since he is already too old for a movie that caters to youth.

But since director J.J. Abrams convinced Harrison how important it is for him to play the role of the famous Corellian smuggler, the "Indiana Jones" star was swayed to think differently.

In fact, he told Screen Rant how this decision has been one of the best he has made.

"It's better than a slap in the belly with a wet fish. It's been gratifying. I'm delighted to be involved once again and to be part of this enterprise which has made a big difference in my life 30 years ago," he answered when asked how the entire experience of being Han Solo again was.

He also revealed that while he did plenty of other roles after his last "Star Wars" film, he did not feel confined by any of it so much so that it made returning as Han Solo difficult.

"When the first Star Wars came out, I took advantage of that success to do a couple of films where I - I immediately went to work doing different kinds of things and it had always been my ambition to make different kinds of films for different audiences, play different kinds of characters, (be in) different genres of films," he said.

He also shared the change that his character has undergone, describing the Star Wars character to be a little bit wiser and more experienced.

Aside from that, he may have spoiled a certain portion of the film, which is that the film will apparently reveal Han Solo's history - something that Harrison believes the audience will want to see.

"There'll be - the film will reveal details of his history which you may find interesting, and which you have the expectation might change him to a degree," he added.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which is due in theaters on December 16, 2015, stars Ford alongside some of the original casts of "Star Wars", including Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

Newcomers featured in the film are John Boyega as Finn as well as Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver as Rey and Kylo Ren respectively, the two new characters rumored to be the Solo twins.
