'Final Fantasy VII’ Remake To Run on the UnReal Engine 4 & Will Be a Multi-Part Series? [Gameplay, Release Date & Rumors]
Square unveiled the latest trailer of the "Final Fantasy VII" remake over the weekend. Now, reports have surfaced that the remake will be more than a single game and will be released episodically.
The game developer's follow-up press release revealed that the remake will be "told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience," the Verge reported. It's unclear whether the new "Final Fantasy VII" would be episodic like "Life is Strange" and "The Walking Dead," or it could be fashioned after the "Final Fantasy VIII," which had multiple sequels. There's also a chance that the remake will come out as something altogether different.
In an interview with Dengeki Online, Yoshinori Kitase, the original game's producer, shared that "if we took everything that's in the original game and remade it at that quality, we couldn't get it all on a single release," Destructoid quoted.
"If we dedicated our time to a single release, parts of it would become summarized. We'd have to cut some parts, and additional parts would come in few, so rather than remake the game as a full volume, we decided to do multiple parts," director Tetsuya Nomura added, as reported by Destructoid.
The "Final Fantasy VII" remake will also showcase "a seamless active battle," the news outlet noted.
"Regarding the battle speed and tempo, for the sake of a stress-free battle, we want to do something on the level of 'Dissidia Final Fantasy.' As far as the degree of action goes, it's 'Dissidia Final Fantasy,' then 'Kingdom Hearts,' then 'Final Fantasy VII' Remake. There won't be any actions that require a technique. By using the new system, we want to do action battles while also being able to fight while thinking strategically," Nomura explained, as quoted in Destructoid's report.
The ATB gauge and Limit Breaks will still be present in the game, but it will come with new ways to be utilized, Destructoid added. There will still be three party members, but users can switch freely between them, or just play as one of them.
Kitase also said that Cloud, the game's main protagonist, still cross-dresses for Don Corneo, the news outlet further reported. There will be story changes as well, but they don't want the remake to end in a nostalgic tone, Kitase noted.
He added, "I want to get the fans of the original version excited. We'll be making adjustments to the story with this feeling in mind."
