Android M 6.0 Marshmallow Release Date & Download: Xiaomi Phones Rumored to Get Google’s New OS Soon
Google's Android 6.0 Marshmallow is reportedly coming to Xiaomi mobile devices soon.
The news came from Xiaomi's MIUI operations manager last week through a Weibo post translated by GizmoChina. According to the report, the Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi Note will be the first smartphones from the Xiaomi family that will be updated to Google's latest operating system.
GizmoChina added that the update would not provide a new iteration of the Chinese firm's MIUI interface, which means its version would stay put at 7.
This news comes just a day after Microsoft released the Windows 10 for the LTE version of the Mi 4 device, the news outlet noted. Windows 10 can be downloaded and installed on the Mi 4 starting on Dec. 3.
More Devices Getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow
During the IFA 2015 event held in September, Sony announced the list of Xperia devices getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. These are the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia M4 Aqua, Xperia C4, and Xperia Z4 Tablet, Neurogadget listed.
Sony didn't officially announce about when these devices will receive the newest Android OS's over-the-air, or OTA, update. But a recent tweet from Ricciolo1, a popular leakster, claimed that the Xperia Z5 models will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow in January 2016, Neurogadget reported.
The unlocked variants of the Xperia Z5 devices will probably be the first ones to receive the OS, the news outlet wrote. The update's release will also depend on the carrier users are connected to and the country they reside in.
The Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which officially rolled out on Oct. 5, boasts of new features, such as a better battery manager called Doze, improved handling of app permissions, and the Google Now on Tap, among others.
The OS' Doze app automatically cuts off some of the device's processes when the smartphone is in idle mode, effectively minimizing energy consumption, Gizmodo wrote. Users also have the ability to deny permission to apps trying to obtain personal information, Wired reported.
Described as the "key to Google's mobile future," Now on Tap is capable of predicting a user's needs and follows them wherever they are in the smartphone, Wired reported. It is capable of scanning a user's device for any references to maps, events, names, flights, and albums, minimizing typing information on their mobile devices all the time. Instead, Tap Now will deliver information to the user's own screen, Android Origin took note.
