Moto X Pure Edition Undergoes Android Marshmallow Soak Test
The Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the Moto X Pure Edition could come any time next week as the soak test for the upgrade has already begun.
Android Authority said Motorola Mobile Devices, Vice President Product Sales and Operations, David Schuster, provided the much-needed update on his social media account.
"I'm pleased to announce that today we are starting the soak test period of Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade for the 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen) in the US. We will monitor the soak for next week and with good results, proceed to full launch," Schuster posted on Google Plus.
The soak test is a process of introducing the new software to a small group of users to oversee its performance and test it for any bugs or problems, as per Android Authority.
This is also reportedly the last stage before the software is launched to the public.
In addition, TechTimes mentioned that these soak tests are also beta versions of the system update.
"In Motorola's case, soak tests usually hit dedicated members of the Motorola support forum, and it should all be done in secret, away from prying eyes," added the same report.
And because the soak tests have started, it is expected that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow will arrive soon in the coming weeks.
Google's latest OS version, as per Android Pit, has a similar visual design as the Lollipop, its predecessor. It noted, however, that the Marshmallow's lock screen has expandable notifications and application shortcuts.
As for the home screen, the Marshmallow sports the same one as the previous one with a search bar and a colourful Google logo.
For its review, Android Pit noted that the OS update is "not much a revolution" for Android, but said that it focused on a few important things to offer its users - "making Google services even easier to use; delivering better ways to access and manage apps; addressing core system weaknesses like battery life and security; and delivering more customization and user-facing controls to stock Android."
The said operating system makes Android use easier than previous offerings. It also reportedly offers better performance and battery life.
On the other hand, ArsTechnica said that some of the applications have the capacity to opt out of the power-saving features of the device like the Doze and App Standby.
"We don't trust developers to play by the rules," added the same report.
But it claimed that the ugly part for this OS update is that it cannot be available to the majority of Android devices in the market, only to a few selected ones.
