'Doctor Who' Christmas Special: River Song to Re-Meet Her Husband? [Spoilers & Rumours]
Alex Kingston will be back to reprise her role as River Song in the Christmas Special of "Doctor Who" on BBC One. The upcoming episode, titled "The Husbands of River Song," will see the return of the 52-year-old English actress along with the main star, Peter Capaldi.
According to iO9, the 57-year-old Scottish actor will be seen on a journey to find his wife, not to mention the huge red robot that comes on their way. However, he found himself in an era where his better-half hasn't even met him yet.
Steven Moffat, the show's writer, said the Christmas special followed its 2012 episode, "The Angels Take Manhattan." Moreover, in addition to the return of the love of his life, "Doctor Who's" favorite toy will also be back in his possession.
The sonic screwdriver can do everything for the good of the extraterrestrial series owner. It is back, though, with a new design to boot, after being gone for quite awhile.
Meanwhile, Telegraph noted the full synopsis of the upcoming episode from its channel network, BBC:
"It's Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas Carols and Comedy Antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song's squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy," the summary noted.
It also added that King Hydroflax, played by Greg Davies, is mad, which is why his giant bodyguard is hunting them all. Also, it raises questions like whether or not Will Nardole, played by Matt Lucas, will survive. And, will River Song remember the love of her life?
Meanwhile, Radio Times had an interview with the 54-year-old producer of the show, Moffat. "I'll be honest, I brought River Song back in because I thought there's a possibility I'd never write it [Doctor Who] again so that'll be my goodbye. But also I really fancied it. I hadn't written River for a couple of years and I'd always loved writing for her and I'd missed her," he explained.
The showrunner also added that "Doctor Who" fans and followers are intrigued of the Doctor and River Song's beautiful love story. Luckily, in the new episode, enthusiasts will have a glimpse of the couple fighting for each other with their special abilities and powers.
