'Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain' Secret Mission: How to Unlock the Hidden Nuclear Disarmament Event
"Metal Gear Solid V" players are in for an exciting week as Konami launches a secret mission in the "The Phantom Pain" called the "Nuclear Disarmament Event."
Konami Computer Entertainment Japan has officially unlocked the hidden event in the popular action-adventure stealth video game, which any player can join provided that they fulfill several conditions, according to a post from Techno Buffalo.
The first two conditions are that a player should have already completed Mission 31 and that one should not own or be currently developing any nuclear weapon.
Should a player wish to join the secret mission, any nuclear weapons in development or in stock at Mother Base should be dismantled.
Condition no. 3 says that "certain conditions" that are related to nuclear proliferation should also be met on the regional server level corresponding to their respective platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, or Steam.
The fourth and final condition requires "zero nukes live or in development" on the regional platform server.
Before the Thanksgiving weekend, the game developer also posted an update of the number of owned nukes for each platform on the official Twitter page of Metal Gear Solid as of November 26, with the following stats:
PlayStation 4ï¼349
PlayStation 3ï¼215
Xbox Oneï¼81
Xbox 360ï¼75
Steamï¼15206
By Sunday, November 29, the number of nuclear weapons owned for each platform dropped by almost half based on another Tweet from Konami, which means many players are already joining the hidden mission.
Forbes speculates that this drastic slide in the numbers of owned nuclear weapons may be because players are already up for a new challenge.
"I believe that this is happening less because players are suddenly trying to give peace a chance, and more because they're probably moving on from Metal Gear Solid's (honestly not great) FOB mode to one of the zillion other huge games that came out in November," the outlet explained.
Forbes further revealed that active players tend to have the upper hand in this situation as it makes their job of wiping out bases easier with the game's most powerful weapon being disarmed by the minute.
PC Mag believes that this is Konami's way of proving to the world that ridding the world of these immensely destructive weapons can be a goal worth pursuing, no matter how impossible it may seem.
