Nintendo NX Release Date: Mass Production Set in April 2016? Specs, Controller, Price & Everything We Know So Far [Rumor Review]
By next year, video game company, Nintendo, is rumored to ship 10-12 million NX consoles as a mass production of the device and is reportedly set for the end of the first quarter of next year.
Digitimes said that the company's new game console is expected to continue with mass production and despite Nintendo's target "to ship 20 million units in 2016, the device's upstream component suppliers expect shipments to only reach around 10-12 million units."
In addition, IGN said that Nintendo CEO, Tatsumi Kimishima, has still predicted that the NX and his company's mobile partnership with DeNA will mean big profits for the them.
"If the 20 million units number turns out to be true, the company must have enormous faith in its new hardware," added the same report, but said that Nintendo turns out to be much more conservative with its estimates.
It was also noted that Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) was the one picked to manufacture the Nintendo NX, although the company reportedly declined to comment on its clients or the orders.
When mass shipment starts next year, companies like Foxconn Technology, Macronix, Pixart Imaging, Coxon Precise Industrial, Nishoku Technology, Delta Technology, Lingsen Precision Industries and Jentech are expected to supply components of the console.
When it becomes available in the market, Digital Trends said that the console could have clickable scroll wheels instead of the usual GamePad shoulder buttons.
"That sounds like a great way to maintain the functionality of a current design feature while also adding another dimension of utility. Particularly for games that use a lot of menus, scroll wheels could be a real boon," added the same report.
It was also added that Nintendo has already filed a patent for achievements and a system to share a player's unlocking of achievement with friends and other fellow gamers.
Meanwhile, TechRadar detailed that there are a few exciting facts about the upcoming console including:
- The Nintendo NX won't run Android
- It exists, but Iwata said it won't be ready in 2016
- Dragon Quest XI could be the NX's first game
- It's available for pre-order at select retailers
- Nintendo will still support the Wii U and 3DS after the NX launches
- Here's what Super Mario looks like on Unreal Engine 4
- Zelda on Wii U missed E3 2015 -- could skip Wii U entirely
The same report said this next Nintendo console could make a difference in the gaming industry since it has the capacity to create a console-portable hybrid. Users would want to have an Xbox One/PS4-level system that they can play and take anywhere as long as they have power.
Express said the price expectation for the Nintendo NX is around $299 which is similar to the tag of the PS4 and Xbox One.
