Latin Grammys 2015: Award Winners & Highlights Of the Night
The 16th Latin Grammy Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena located in MGM Grand Las Vegas in Paradise, Nevada on Nov. 19 was a huge success. The Recording Academy made it a must that all of the biggest stars of the Latin music industry attended the annual event.
According to Forbes, just like the Grammy Awards, there are four main categories for the award show, like Album, Song, Record of the Year and Best New Artist. However, unlike the known accolade, the Latin Grammy Awards searched for the songs that explored the music of Central, South and even North America over the decades.
They are separating every genre specifically to ensure the artists to get what they truly deserve with their quite a few categories. CBS News reported, Natalia Lafourcade owned the night by winning four awards out of her five nominations of her album "Hasta La Raiz."
Unfortunately, the 31-year-old pop rock singer-songwriter lost the highest recognition, the album of the year, to Dominican bachata artist Juan Luis Guerra for his "Todo Tiene Su Hora." However, she still had the two of the best awards which were the song of the year and record of the year for the title track of "Hasta la Raiz."
"My friend, how amazing that we made this disc together," the Natalia y La Forquetina frontwoman told her personal friend, collaborator and co-writer Leonel Garcia, who she shared the three nominations for her album's title track. Moreover, the Latin Grammy Awards went on for a three-hour show with the performances of Ricky Martin, Fifth Harmony and Prince Royce.
Will Smith surprised everyone with his comeback rendition of "Fiesta" and returned to his rap roots with Colombian trop-rockers Bomba Estereo. The show was live broadcasted on Univision and for the first time, was seen in China.
The event was hosted by the two top actresses Jacqueline Bracamontes and Roselyn Sanchez. Other stars who won in the ceremony were Nicky Jam, Enrique Iglesias and Juanes, among many others.
Moreover, Billboard noted that Maná and Los Tigres del Norte, who are known by using their music to send an important political message to their listeners. The two iconic Mexican groups joined together to make a statement about the "the unprecedented power of the Latino vote in the upcoming 2016 election."
