EA Games: Multiple 'Star Wars: Battlefront' Sequels to Launch, Says CFO Blake Jorgensen
EA Games is reportedly planning to release multiple "Star Wars: Battlefront" installments in the future.
EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said at the UBS Global Technology Conference that the company's "goal is to make future 'Battlefront' games," as well as other titles related to "Star Wars," Entertainment Weekly reported. With the buzz surrounding the game and the upcoming film "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," it's not surprising that EA is planning for further developments.
"The beauty of the 'Star Wars' franchise is it's almost unlimited in what you can do with it. We know Disney has done a great job with other franchises and we believe they'll do the same with 'Star Wars' over time in delivering new worlds, new characters, new vehicles, all the things that make great video games," said Jorgensen, as quoted by GameSpot.
EA and Disney has a decade-long licensing term to make "Star Wars" games for consoles and PCs, which treats "the 'Star Wars' universe as built up to this point, as well as the upcoming films, books, and shows in the universe's canon," Entertainment Weekly wrote. However, EA is not making games that directly tie-in and retell the stories of the upcoming installments on the big screen.
"Our goal is not to make video games directly about the movies, it's to use the IP in the movie to make great, exciting games," Jorgensen noted, as quoted by the news outlet.
"Battlefront" will also have a tie-in to the new film along with the "Battle of Jakku" downloadable content coming this year, Entertainment Weekly added. The game will center on the first trilogy of films, so there are plenty of locations, characters, and vehicles available for content in upcoming DLC or future iterations.
"Uncharted" series lead writer Amy Hennig, Visceral Games, and "Assassin's Creed" creator Jade Raymond are working on the upcoming "Star Wars" game, Forbes listed.
"An opportunity to work with her and the Visceral team, and to play in the 'Star Wars' universe, is once-in-a-lifetime stuff," said Raymond, as quoted by Forbes. EA previously said that they want Raymond to develop the "action genre" for them, an aspect that they have not performed well that much.
"We've never really operated in the largest genre of gaming, and that's the action genre. That's the 'Assassin's Creed'-style games; more open-world, more single-play versus multiplayer. It's not been an area that we've operated in. We recently hired Jade Raymond...and she will be building an action genre for us," EA's statement reads, as reported by the news outlet.
