ISIS Threatens Russia: 'Kremlin will be ours'
The Islamic State militant group has released a new video threatening to attack Russia "soon, very soon".
The video, which has been marked with ISIS' Al Hayat Media Center and confirmed by monitoring group SITE, was released on Wednesday, showing montage clips, gruesom execution videos, and even splices of images from the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris, while a man sings in Russian, "soon, very soon, the blood will spill like an ocean. Europe is shaking. Russia is dying with destructive death."
Fox News mentioned that US-based Terrorism Research and Analysis Consortium editorial director Veryan Khan said about the 5-minute video, "The video is a clear threat to Russia, and to a certain extent to other Western countries. The Islamic State claims they will reach the Kremlin and bring it down."
"Many threats are being issued against Russia because of their intervention in Syria since September, and this video is clearly just one more threat to Russian President Vladimir Putin," he said.
According to Mashable, the video comes almost two weeks after the militant group released a message to Russia, claiming responsibility for bringing down the recently crashed Russian Metrojet flight 9268, just a little over 20 minutes after taking off from the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, killing all 224 people on board.
However, the release of the recent video coincided with a US-backed Kurdish offensive in northern Iraq, in an attempt to reclaim territory seized by ISIS last year. The Kurdish Regional Security Service said that the assault was successful in capturing the highway used as a supply route.
A member of al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat Al-Nusra, called Abu Ubaid al-Madani, threatened in a video published by YouTube last month, "Your sons will return dead. Are those Russian soldiers willing to die for the caprices and egoism of Putin?"
CNN reported that Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters, "I've read news about this video, but have not seen it myself. I don't know the authenticity of this video, and I don't know the authenticity of these sources. But in any case I'm sure this material will be subject of scrutiny by our special services."
This latest war between ISIS and Russia is certainly not the first. As noted by Mashable, Russia has already dealt with a lot of terrorism at home especially in the Chechnya region, where it has already fought two wars and continued doing so to quash insurgents. The region is more stable nowadays, thanks to the Kremlin-backed Ramzan Kadyrov, but the rise of ISIS has brought fresh fears back.
