Nintendo NX News, Specs & Release Date: New Console to Release ‘Metroid Prime’ Series?
The Nintendo NX is somewhat of a mystery, considering that nobody seems to know what kind of console it is.
Satoru Iwata, the late President of the brand, said in a statement, "As proof that Nintendo maintains strong enthusiasm for the dedicated game system business, let me confirm that Nintendo is currently developing a dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept under the development codename 'NX'. It is too early to elaborate on the details of this project."
AMD already hinted of new consoles that they are working on, set to be released in 2016. However, it seems that Nintendo NX is the only one in the making so far, leading sites like Crossmap to believe that AMD is actually referring to the NX.
However, even though many thought that updates on the NX are coming this year, Iwata mentioned before he died that the company is not releasing any new information until at least 2016. Back then, he said that the announcement regarding the NX is merely a formality so as their users will not assume that Nintendo is moving on to smart devices.
"I intentionally chose to announce the development of NX so early because I wanted to confirm the fact that we are developing a new dedicated video game platform, that we have never lost passion regarding the future for dedicated video game systems and that we have bright prospects for them..." Iwata shared.
Despite Iwata's decision to keep details under wraps until 2016, there have been leaks regarding the console, one from Eurogamer being that the Metroid Prime series will be part of it. What Culture reported, "Metroid Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe has already been quoted as saying that the next addition to the Metroid franchise would arrive on the NX."
"If we started for Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo's NX console. It's a long time but it would need to include a lot of content, which would take a lot of work on the development side," he added.
Meanwhile, in a separate report, a few games have already been revealed to be ready for the Nintendo NX, which includes "Dragon Quest", although the announcement is yet to be made official.
