PlayStation VR & Nintendo NX News: Capcom to Develop Games for Next Gen Consoles? [Rumors]
Capcom investors have revealed that the company will "consider" developing games for the upcoming Nintendo NX console, as well as the PlayStation VR.
Nothing concrete has been established about the Nintendo NX so far, but there have been rumors as to what fans can expect, including digital-only approach, and even some who went so far as to say that it can change gaming as we know it.
According to Game Rant, Capcom refuses to speak in definitive terms regarding the development of titles for the NX and PlayStation VR. A rep stated in a recent question and answer session, however, that "Our R&D operations are working on technologies for many types of hardware. We will consider the possibility of creating technology demonstrations and making versions of titles under development for these new platforms."
The representative then added, "At this time, we have not announced any plans for specific products or the timing of a product launch."
The statement of the company "working on technologies for many types of hardware" may suggest that they already have their hands on the software development kits for the NX and VR, which is consistent with reports of Nintendo already sending their developer kits out.
These developer kits are used by game-makers to create new games or modify their existing ones to run on new hardware. Considering that Capcom is one of the biggest names in gaming, it wouldn't be surprising that they're already at work.
Of course, Nintendo Insider noted that Capcom's support for the Wii U has been minimal, although they still have a relationship with the company as they are still behind the Nintendo 3DS games, including "Monster Hunter X", "Monster Hunter Stories", and "Ace Attorney 6" rumored to be released by next year.
Capcom, Nintendo, and Sony are all keeping mum about the future of their plans in gaming, however, there are already rumors circling that Capcom is at work on "Street Fighter V" as well as HD remakes of their more popular games.
Nintendo has been adamant not to talk about the upcoming NX until next year. However, PlayStation VR, formerly known as Project Morpheus, is slated to arrive early next year, which means that it could be way ahead in its game titles.
The price range for the PlayStation VR has not been announced yet. Although, Game Spot notes that PlayStation executive Andrew House already mentioned that it will be "priced like a new gaming system".
