NBA Trade Rumors 2014 Update: Deron Williams Doesn't Think Paul Pierce for Zach Randolph, Brook Lopez for Pau Gasol Trade Will Happen
The Brooklyn Nets came into the season with a lot of promise after a major roster shakeup, but the star-studded team is still looking for answers to their current woes.
Previous reports suggested that the Nets could consider trading Paul Pierce to the Memphis Grizzlies for Zach Randolph before the deadline.
The Nets also allegedly talked to the Los Angeles Lakers about a possible deal involving Pau Gasol and injured Nets center Brook Lopez.
Deron Williams was also mentioned in a potential trade for Houston Rockets' Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin.
But when asked about the trade rumors surrounding their team, All-Star guard Williams said that he doesn't think the Nets will make major roster changes before the annual NBA trade deadline.
"We have no choice. I don't think we're making any trades," Williams told The New York Post. "I mean, I don't know, but this is the team we've got. We feel like we can win with it. We just have to figure out how."
The Nets are currently 12th in the Eastern Conference standings with their 10-21 record - a record that is only a half-a-game ahead of the 13th-placed New York Knicks and three games ahead of last-placed Milwaukee Bucks.
Their current record is not what the Nets envisioned heading into the season after making blockbuster deals during the offseason.
The Nets traded four first-round picks for veterans Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Jason Terry in a blockbuster deal with the Boston Celtics. After the deal was consummated, experts said that the Nets would be a serious threat to defending champions Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers in the race for Eastern Conference supremacy this season.
The Nets were defeated in four of their last five games by an average margin of 17.3 points, which includes a humiliating 113-92 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.
"It's embarrassing, man," said Pierce of their recent defeats. "I don't know if I've probably ever been a part of this many blowouts in one season already, but at some point, we've got to be able to have our pride come from each individual, and say we've had enough of this. It's extremely embarrassing."
