UFC Champion Ronda Rousey Picks Bernie Sanders for President
UFC champion Ronda Rousey has chosen her presidential bet and it is not female candidate Hillary Clinton but her arch-rival Bernie Sanders.
In an interview with Maxim, Rousey expressed her support to the Vermont Senator adding that she hopes he will land for the highest post in the United States.
"I'm voting for Bernie Sanders, because he doesn't take any corporate money. I don't think politicians should be allowed to take money for their campaigns from outside interests," Rousey said.
Asked what she would do in case her bet loses in the polls, Rousey said she'll "probably vote for a third party again."
"To be honest, in 2012 I was against both candidates and so I just picked any third party because I thought if more people voted for third parties then they'd have to take third parties seriously," added the UFC champ.
The fighter, who has a match on Saturday versus Holly Holm, noted that she was "so disenchanted" with the two-party system prompting her to cast her vote to comedian Roseanne Barr's 2012 third-party bid.
"I voted for Roseanne last time. Mostly I went in to vote for all the state and local things. I was so unimpressed with the whole presidential campaign that I picked whatever third party I saw, and I saw Roseanne and thought, 'That's awesome.' But I'm really pulling for Sanders this time. I hope it works out," she added.
Yahoo Sports said this support for Sanders is the complete opposite of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's earlier announcement that Rousey will support her in the 2016 elections.
According to CNN, the business mogul considered Rousey as one of the best female fighters in the world.
"Some of them are really, really good. I'll tell you what, I know some woman that are just -- Ronda Rousey is an example, who likes me. ... I'd take her on my side as a fighter," Trump said.
The UFC champion, however sang a different tune saying that she would not vote for Trump.
"I just really wouldn't trust the guy with running my country, that's all. ... I'm not really going to get into specifics of it, but, I mean, I don't want a reality TV star to be running my country," Rousey added.
Bleacher Report mentioned that Rousey is set to defend her undefeated record versus Holm at UFC 193 on Nov. 15 in Melbourne, Australia. Her most recent win was a 34-second victory against Brazilian fighter Bethe Correia in Rio de Janeiro last August.
It is expected that Holm will give Rousey a bit of a challenge since she is an ex-boxing star who is known for her "length and excellent footwork." This skill is anticipated to be showcased come November as Rousey again try to prove that she is the best female fighter in the UFC.
