'Red Dead Redemption 2' News: Game to Launch Next Year? [Details]
Not much is known about "Red Dead Redemption 2," Rockstar Games sequel for the 2010 open-world video game, "Red Dead Redemption." However, this doesn't stop the rumors coming up every now and then online.
Suresh Gupta of GameKlan claimed that Rockstar Game is planning to name the upcoming game of the franchise as "Red Dead Revolution," CrossMap reported. The game will feature the story of the protagonist Jack, John Marston's son, and will reportedly head to all present generation consoles, such as PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
CrossMap also speculated that the sequel will be released in 2016 after 3 and 1/2 years of development.
Take Two CEO Straus Zelnich said in the most recent Cowen and Company analyst conference that "Red Dead" is going to be a franchise. As quoted by the news outlet, he said, "I pretty much know the ones that I can assure you are permanent. It's obvious that 'GTA' is a permanent franchise as long as we keep delivering this incredible quality; it seems quite obvious that 'Red Dead' is a permanent franchise, again with the same caveat, or 'Borderlands,' for example, and 'NBA' and others."
Rockstar San Diego seemed to clarify the game being a franchise when the developer announced that they are hiring a total of 37 new employees for the development of the new "Red Dead" game. They are looking for programmers, artists, systems administrators, animators, engineers, technical designers, and producers, among others, CrossMap listed.
In August, a separate report from CrossMap noted about a Reddit user named AnonDN1978 claiming that the next "Red Dead" game will have two main characters and a customizable one.
Reporting about the game's probable storyline, Movie Pilot wrote that players will be given an option to play as three characters: Irish and Seth from the first game or a brand-new third character. In addition, the sequel will be set 12 years before the events of the original game, which ended with former outlaw John Marston sacrificing himself to save the lives of his wife and Jack's, his young son.
As provided by Movie Pilot, here's the description of Irish and Seth: "Irish will be brought up in Ireland and will move to the Americas when he is fifteen and moves to the game setting when he turns twenty one. Seth is from Kansas City and works as a teller in a bank. He then hears of a treasure and uses his life savings to bring his family to Texas in the town of Tumbleweed. Throughout the story we experience him unraveling to his state of mind in the original game, losing his wife, children, home, and possessions to his treasure."
