Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger to Miss More Game Time Due to Mid-Foot Sprain
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is expected to miss more games due to a foot injury he sustained during his team's victory versus the Oakland Raiders.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the quarterback suffered a mid-foot strain which will cause him to not participate for "a few weeks" in the Steelers' scheduled games.
247 Sports said Roethlisberger was carted out of Sunday's game during the fourth quarter after he got hit by Raiders' defensive lineman Aldon Smith.
"Big Ben was helped off the field and carted off into the team's locker room following the hit, and left Heinz Field for the hospital before the conclusion of Sunday's game," added the same report.
It seems like injuries have been haunting the quarterback since he was also carted off the field during Week 3 when he sustained a sprained MCL, leading him to miss the entire October.
Teammate and wide receiver Antonio Brown said in the ESPN report that they are greatly concerned with the Roethlisberger's condition though he failed to disclose the extent of the injury.
"Ben is our franchise quarterback. We live and die with him. ... Hopefully he can be with us," Brown added.
For his part, Steelers guard Ramon Foster said in a Yahoo Sports report that the team should remain focused despite injuries in the team. Aside from their quarterback, the Steelers are also playing sans running back Le'Veon Bell (MCL tear), center Maurkice Pouncey (broken fibula) and starting left tackle Kelvin Beachum (ACL tear).
"I joke around with it. I say 'I don't know who (ticked) off the football gods, but they're definitely letting us have it this year with the injuries. We've got to stay the course," Foster explained.
On the other hand, CBS Sports explained that the Steelers will face the Browns next week with players like backup quarterback Landry Jones, Brown and DeAngelo Williams, who are expected to contribute points to their team for the next game.
"The bad news is that Roethlisberger's injury could linger beyond two games -- the team just doesn't know how healthy he will be in a few weeks -- and a once-promising season could be slipping away," noted the same report.
NESN said Jones could likely start during the Browns game and is expected to be a good replacement in the quarterback position since he was able to pas "for 377 yards with three touchdowns and three turnovers" earlier this season.
The Steelers' performance without Roethlisberger will be tested for their upcoming game versus the Browns. The team is certainly hoping that this will not greatly affect their game.
