'The Witcher 3' Movie in the Works? 'The Mummy' Producers On Board for 2017 Release Date
After being a hit in the gaming world, The Witcher 3 movie is believed to be already in the works and will come to the big screen two years from now.
Digital Trends said the Sean Daniel Company, which also produced "The Mummy" movies, made an announcement this week that it will also produce a movie based on The Witcher novels of Andrzej Sapkowski.
The series of novels was also the inspiration for "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," which according to Digital Trends, became a hit in the gaming world.
In addition, Digital Trends also said that The Witcher series already has five novels, a collection of short stories, a prequel novel and three game releases.
"The primary protagonist of the franchise is a wandering monster hunter named Geralt, who uses his formidable fighting skills and a variety of magical abilities to track and dispatch supernatural creatures in a medieval fantasy world," added the same report.
For this movie, the Sean Daniel Company is expected to work together with Polish producers Platige Films. Aside from "The Mummy" series, Collider noted that the American production company was also responsible for the TV series The Expanse and the Beh-Hur remake.
According to Den of Geek, the upcoming movie is expected to be directed by Tomasz Baginski, who also also headed the Sci-Fi animation and Oscar-nominated "The Cathedral." Baginski also reportedly directed the opening scenes of the first games of the series.
Although the movie is expected to come out in 2017, there has been no casting announced.
It was also mentioned in the Digital Trends report that the movie will not be based on any of the series' games or novels but will be "inspired" by the themes of the "The Witcher" and "Lesser Evil" short stories from the 2008 "The Last Wish" collection of Sapkowski.
Meanwhile, a Platige Films press release explained that the author's novels have taken the international fantasy book market by storm with "The Last Wish" hailed by the New York Times as one of the bestselling books.
"The film will be an introduction to the Witcher's world and is planned to be the beginning of a series. Thania St. John, an experienced Hollywood scriptwriter, author of such television productions as 'Grimm', 'Chicago Fire' and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', is working on the script as well as on its film and television continuation," added Platige Films in its website.
Fans of the game and readers of the novel are surely looking forward to the release of the movie.
