Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Console to Launch Ahead of the Holiday Season: Release Date & Games
It's an early Christmas for Xbox fans, as the company just announced that they will release their Backwards Compatibility Consoles on November 12, 2015 --- just a bit ahead for the holidays.
Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb, director of XBox Programming revealed the news via a video that showed him bringing XBox 360 video games to Xbox One, which were allowed with the help of the Xbox One Backward Compatibility.
Microsoft announced on their official Xbox website, "Xbox One Backward Compatibility is here. Now you can play a growing number of your Xbox 360 games on Xbox One at no additional cost. With over 100 titles slated for this fall, and hundreds more in the months to come, Xbox One is now the best place to play your Xbox 360 games. Experience the greatest games lineup in Xbox history-exclusively on Xbox One."
The good news is that Backward Compatibility is free. Xbox 360 games that were purchased digitally will automatically be part of the Xbox One collection and Microsoft is said to identify users via their GamerTags and put the games in the Backward Compatibility collection.
Thus, when the player hits "play", they can load up the Xbox 360 version on the Xbox One. Players who had their games loaded up on the cloud can also pull up the said Xbox 360 games on the newer model.
Major Nelson also said that the Backward Compatibility will work with physical game copies as well and all they had to do is slide the DVD into the Xbox One console, automatically downloading the software version from Xbox Live. And as if that's not good enough news, he also clarified that users will get not only their saved games, but the DLCs, Achievements and Add-ons as well.
There are a few new features as well, including the Game DVR, Screenshots, and Windows 10 Streaming. Best of all, it allows for multiplayer games, no matter which version of the console your friends own.
GearNuke has released a list of Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Games and they include the a lot of blockbuster games including "Gears of War", "Fallout", "Bioshock", Splinter Cell", "Halo" and "Assassin's Creed". The site listed a total of 113 games, but there's no confirmation as per its accuracy. However, the official list should be released by the launch of the Backwards Compatibility next week.
There's going to be a lot to look forward to as far as gaming goes, and wouldn't it be cool to go back to playing the old games that you used to love on the Xbox 360? What games are you most excited to see?
