Novelist Alfredo Bryce Echenique's 'Un Mundo Para Julius' To Get Film Adaptation
Director Rossana Diaz Costa has confirmed that a film adaptation based on "Un Mundo para Julius" by novelist Alfredo Bryce Echenique will begin production in 2017.
A report with Fox News Latino said that the Peruvian director hopes to push forward with the production without any snags or delays. While she has not begun casting the role for the child who is the leading character in the book, she does have someone in mind who will play the part.
"I'd love to have Magaly Solier playing the part of Vilma, but we still haven't talked formally about it. I have also spoken with my Argentine coproducer about the possibility of signing actor Leonardo Sbaraglia for the part of Juan Lucas," the director said.
The movie adaptation of "Un Mundo para Julius", which in English translates to "A World for Julius." The book is considered by many to be one of the best examples of Latin American Classic Literature. It was the first novel published by the Peruvian writer in 1970. Echenique who was born in 1939 and has won the National Prize for Literature in 1972.
Echenique's postmodern novel is a coming-of-age story about a young boy, Julius who is the youngest child of a wealthy family in Lima. The novel's deals with Julius' transition from childhood to adolescence. The boy deals with many inner conflicts including his rich and frivolous upbringing causing him to find solace in the servants rather than his own family.
La Republica reported that the moving tale will be brought to life in 2017. The director added that the film is still on the early stages of development and that as of now, funding is still a key element in the success of the film.
"We are still in the development stage. If all goes well, we plan to shoot in the summer of 2017, which will be held in Lima" said the Peruvian director.
Meanwhile, Echenique has put his complete trust in Rossana Diaz Costa's talent and direction. He added that he found Costa's film, "Journey To Timbuktu" to be enjoyable. The Peruvian writer trusts that Costa's vision will bring to life his artistic vision which began in 1970.
The Peruvian writer was born in 1939 and was the recipient of the National Prize for Literature in 1972 and the Planet Award in 2002. Un Mundo Para Julius is considered by many lovers of literature to be one of the best forms of Latin American Classics.
