'Metal Gear Solid 6' Release Date, Trailer & More: What To Expect in the Next Installment [Rumors]
Konami is reported to be eyeing another installment for "Metal Gear" after its most recent installment proved to be a big hit.
After selling some five million copies of "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" all over the globe, Konami is rumored to be preparing for a follow-up, based on a report from Nikkei as cited by Kotaku.
Such venture, Konami told Nikkei as translated by the outlet, would be something that needs a tremendous size of this investment.
"When we start development, a large-scale investment will become necessary," the company's statement explained.
With all the controversies at hand including game creator Hideo Kojima's 'mysterious vacation,' seems to be taking its toll on the company.
The money the company needs for another "Metal Gear" title is quite questionable considering that the game is already established.
Gaming Bolt noticed this too, explaining that the "large-scale investment" Konami is talking about would most probably be allotted to hiring an entirely new set of talented game creators.
"The engine for any future Metal Gear game (that is, the single component of the games that involved the highest upfront investment) is now in place, thanks to the excellent work done on the FOX engine by Kojima and his team. The development pipeline is all in place as well," the outlet noted.
This brings in the rumored disbanding of Kojima's team, with the "Metal Gear" creator cutting its ties from Konami and would not be involved in the making of the sequel of the open world action-adventure stealth video game.
Proof of this is a previous report from Kotaku noting that the company "appeared to be erasing the Kojima brand from Metal Gear."
But, for what it is worth, the company would reportedly be making good on a promise the company made back in March to produce more "Metal Gear" games.
"After the release of MGSV: TPP, Konami plans to also continue releasing titles in the Metal Gear series. We would like to offer our deep gratitude for your continued support of the Metal Gear series," says the company's statement as translated by the outlet.
To clear the matter, Game On Daily asked Konami community manager Graham Day whether the company would still produce the game even without Kojima.
"Yeah, course it can. Metal Gear is about the story, it's about the characters and I think, yeah..." Day told the outlet.
The report from Nikkei as cited by Kotaku explained that the details of the game, particularly its release date, have yet to be released.
