18-Year-Old-Model Edits Her Photo to Reveal The Truth Behind Perfect Pictures On Instagram
Internet sensation Essena O'Neill decided to turn her back on the world of social media since she now believes that everything being delivered on these websites are fake. The 18-year-old model changed all the captions of her photos on Instagram, revealing the truth behind the perfect snaps.
According to Bored Panda, the Australian beauty had been earning thousands of dollars for modeling on the photo sharing website simply by showing her pictures to her numbers of followers. But, she let everything change last week when she deleted 2,000 of her snaps and renamed her account: "Social Media Is Not Real Life."
Since then, she edited all of her pictures' captions to expose the truth. She wrote new captions for the picture, which state how she managed to capture all those photographs.
"Without realizing, I've spent the majority of my teenage life being addicted to social media, social approval, social status and my physical appearance," she wrote on one of her Instagram posts.
"Social media, especially how I used it, isn't real. It's a system based on social approval, likes, validation in views, success in followers. It's perfectly orchestrated, self-absorbed judgement."
Elite Daily reported that Essena also launched her new website called "Let's Be Game Changers." Her site evidently shows how she hates the modeling world as it is composed of anti-modeling posts, personal blog entries.
She also uploaded a 17-minute and 40-second video explaining what made her decide to quit her online career and how the business of social media works. Essena revealed that she was spending 50+ hours per week just to create a perfect social media image.
"I was miserable. Stuck. Uninspired. Angry," she said. "I didn't enjoy the act of creating art, writing or any forms of self-expression like I once did as a child"
However, Daily Mail cited that since she turned her back on modeling she has lost her once stable income. The young girl is now having a hard time supporting her "own real life" that she has even needed to ask for financial support from her followers.
The moved surprised a lot of her supporters and many turned against her, including her own set of friends. The YouTube singers and personal pal of Essena twins Nina and Randa Nelson shared their sentiments about social media on their YouTube channel.
They said that Essena's take was neither fake nor miserable and the cause of her social media breakdown was just about her break-up with a boyfriend she had. They also added that her move was another form of promotion as she gained even more "Instagram followers."
Unfortunately, Essena's Instagram page is now deactivated. Watch her video explanation below:
