Denver Broncos Acquire TE Vernon Davis From San Francisco 49ers
The Denver Broncos has added a great player in their offense in the person of San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis.
CBS Sports noted that the Broncos saw the chance in Davis to "bolster" their offense which needed some great help.
The trade was confirmed by the Broncos' general manager John Elway on his Twitter account.
"We've agreed to trade for two-time Pro Bowl TE Vernon Davis from SF. He'll be a valuable addition to our team w/his experience & leadership," Elway tweeted.
In exchange for the tight end, ESPN reported that the 49ers will get the sixth-round picks of the Broncos for next year and 2017.
It was also noted in the same report that since Davis is set to be an unrestricted free agent after this season, the Broncos could "receive a compensatory draft pick" if he performs well.
"I think what we know of Vernon and all the stuff that we've heard of him being a leader with the [49ers] and qualities that he has as a person, I think that he's going to fit perfectly. That was definitely something that we worked on and was important to us," Elway said in the ESPN report.
With Davis included in the Broncos roster, Yahoo Sports detailed that he will work hand in hand with Peyton Manning especially after the team lost Julius Thomas and Jacob Tamme to free agency.
The tight end has a record of 55 touchdown catches in his 10-year NFL career.
''With Vernon coming aboard we've got four tight ends that will give us the ability to do a lot of different things,'' Elway mentioned in the Yahoo Sports report.
The team's general manager added that this is another way for them to win "from now on."
''But this will be a big step for us to win this season,'' he added.
In a USA Today write-up, Elway added that Davis will be a big factor in their upcoming games. "The compensation, we thought, was fair and we'll go from there."
On a post on his Twitter account, Davis did not forget to thank his previous team for the decade he spent with them.
''Thank you (at)49ers for 10 amazing years. Its been a blessing to play for such an incredible organization. Shout out to all of the coaches, staff, and teammates that made this chapter a very special one in my life. Most of all, a very special thank you to the (hash)49erfaithful family," Davis added.
Meanwhile, Bleacher Report said Davis' trade could have also resulted to his constant opposition to 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, but it also noted that it could be due to the former's age.
