'Power Rangers' Movie 2016 Release Date & Cast Updates: Facts, Rumors & Everything We Know So Far
Unconfirmed reports reveal details from new "Power Rangers" movie which allegedly would be composed of an entirely fresh set of monster-kicking teenagers.
According to Collider, the main cast of the new "Power Rangers" movie is almost complete with four out of five already revealed.
During the past weeks, the official Twitter and Instagram accounts have unveiled new actors to portray the 1990s team of high school heroes who would now be composed of Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, Ludi Lin to portray the Black Ranger and RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger.
The showrunners have yet to reveal the actress to portray the Yellow Ranger.
Aside from that, the outlet also got word on more details for the 2017 film particularly the main gist of the plot, the film's title and the characters' names.
According to the report, the new "Power Rangers" film would be known as "Saban's Power Rangers," a tribute to Haim Saban, the co-creator and owner of the franchise.
The outlet has also revealed an unofficial list of the main characters' names, as follows:
- Callum Oliver - The Red Ranger/Tyrannosaurus
- Priya Patel - The Pink Ranger/Pterodactyl
- Brian Olson - The Blue Ranger/Triceratops
- Oscar Fernandez - The Black Ranger/Mastodon
- Teyana Jones - The Yellow Ranger/Sabre-tooth Tiger
Previous reports on the "Power Rangers" speculated that the new theatrical release of the franchise would be a reboot of the 1993 Fox Kids TV series "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers."
However, the list of character names proved that the upcoming movie would go a different path which, as cited by Collider, would be revolving around an "all-new team and not a reboot in any sense."
Each of the new Rangers would also be matched with animal-themed war machines called "Zords " like that of the 1993 children's show.
Rumors cited by the outlet also cited that there are implications that the original characters' battle suits would be making an appearance somewhere in the film.
"It might be in the big opening scene in which a massive battle between the forces of good and evil is taking place. Or it might be in some sort of flashback in which the old heroes hand off the Morphin' powers to the new," the report explained.
Collider further revealed that "Saban's Power Rangers" which is scheduled for release January 13, 2017 has only about $35 million production budget considering that the main characters for the film are relatively new to the industry.
