57 People Strip Down For a Roller Coaster Ride, Find Out Why Here [Photos]
A group of 57 people tried to break the Guinness Book of Records with their naked stunt to ride the Green Scream at Adventure Island in Southend in Essex on Sunday but, unfortunately, they failed. However, it was still a good feeling when this group raised a whopping £10,000 for cancer charity.
According to BBC News, this bunch of people aimed to help Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation's Keyhole Cancer Appeal. It was first expected that 122 heads will grace the event but only 57 came.
These thrill seekers travelled from all over the United Kingdom like Edinburgh, Newcastle and Swindon. Daily Mail took note the Adventure Island operations director Andrew Renton has to say.
"It's been an absolutely superb day with people all enjoying the chance to do something memorable, good fun and raise a large amount of money for a fantastic, local charity," he said. "We've heard some amazing stories from so many who have been directly, or indirectly, affected by cancer and wanted to give something back." "I am really proud Adventure Island could offer them this opportunity. Admittedly it would have been nice to have bettered our record - but we are still the World Record holders at the end of the day," he added. Lucy Thomas-Clayton, from Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation, on the other hand, said: "It takes a lot of nerve to take off all your clothes in front of complete strangers, plus the world's media - so we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who was brave enough to bare all and raise such a huge amount of cash for our vitally important cause." However, women were still trying hard to hide their private parts as they were about to hit the ride. But, everyone on board was seen having fun in spite of the cold and their nakedness, Daily Mail added.
As the roller coaster sped up and wind was evidently stroke hard on their hair, no one had a hint of scare on their faces. In fact, two women were spotted taking selfies covering their selves with what looked like a blue shett, while a man at their back, wearing nothing but glasses, was seen looking at the ladies.
Meanwhile, in Aug. 8, 2010, a group of 102 nude people took the Green Scream rollercoaster and set the record of most naked men and women graced a theme park ride. Guinness World Records' site noted that these participants managed to raise more than £22,000 or $36,700 for the "Bosom Pals" appeal, a breast cancer unit at Southend University Hospital.
