Samsung Gear VR Gains Access to Movie Apps Like Netflix & Hulu, See Details Here!
Watching movies on your favorite online entertainment providers will have a new and exciting feel as Samsung's Gear VR headset will soon be compatible with Netflix, Hulu and Twitch.
The Verge said that the announcement was earlier made during the keynote speech of Oculus Connect CEO Brendan Iribe.
He noted that Netflix became available in the Gear VR late last month while Hulu is expected to get the same update on November. Other platforms which will be made available for the Gear VR are Vimeo and TiVo.
According to Android Central, the access of the Samsung VR to apps like Hulu and Netflix will give users "a perfect place to watch a movie."
"It's a uniquely immersive experience that everyone should definitely give a shot for at least a few minutes," the same report added.
In explaining the feature of the Samsung Gear VR, Android Central said it functions just like the Google Cardboard which uses a phone to project through a headset.
"What sets the two apart is Samsung's partnership with Oculus and design to be worn for more than a few minutes. Watching movies and television through the Gear VR, while a little silly sounding at first, is a full blown immersive experience in the best way," Android Central noted.
In a blog post, Oculus CTO John Carmack said that he already envisioned that Gear VR will be successful along with Netflix.
"It was very rewarding to be able to do this work right before Oculus Connect and make it available to all of our users in such a short timeframe. Plus, I got to watch the entire season of Daredevil from the comfort of my virtual couch. Because testing, of course," Carmack added.
Meanwhile, Hulu has reportedly announced that its VR app will be available by November when the $99-worth Gear VR headset also goes on sale.
Hulu's distribution head Tim Connolly said in a CNet report that the company is "ready to go." The company also noted that they are thinking of "commissioning original series that are purely virtual reality without a 2D element."
iDigitalTimes detailed that the Gear VR headset came into reality with the partnership of Samsung and Oculus to make "a low-cost alternative to virtual reality headsets."
The 310-gram headset is expected to work with Samsung phones like the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy Note5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ through a microUSB connection.
This is another much-awaited technology not only for gamers but movie buffs as well since they can already enjoy a great viewing experience at the comforts of their homes.
