HP Envy 13 vs Apple’s MacBook Air: New Laptop is Thinner, Sleeker & Better
HP has introduced its latest entry to their Envy laptop family. The Envy 13 is currently being touted by the tech giant as their thinnest laptop yet, even slimmer than Apple's MacBook Air, Tech Times wrote.
Here's how the laptops differ from each other in terms of specs.
Display
The HP Envy 13 comes with a 13-inch screen bearing 1366 x 768 HD resolution, as well as 3,200 x 1,800 pixel display In-Plane Switching (IPS) options, Tech Times reported. It is equipped with LED backlight and a monitor with edge-to-edge glass, CNET added.
The laptop's thickness is only at 0.51 inch and weighs 2.81 pounds, Tech Times noted. Like its predecessors, the HP Envy 13 is coated entirely in aluminum.
HP said that the laptop's "elevated chassis design" allows it to better dispel heat so the body would not get too heated, Laptop Mag reported. The laptop opens with "its hinge elevating the deck," which allows better stability and improves typing by positioning the keyboard up at an angle, the news outlet added.
Apple's MacBook Air, on the other hand, comes in two variants: an 11-inch model and a 13-inch version weighing 2.38 pounds and 2.96 pounds, respectively. Both variants come with LED-backlit glossy widescreen display bearing 1400 x 900 pixel resolution, and are both 0.68 inches thick, Apple's official site wrote.
Processor, Chipset, & OS
The HP Envy 13 is powered by the sixth generation Intel Core Skylake processors, along with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. Windows 7 serves as the laptop's operating system, CNET noted.
The MacBook Air is powered by the Intel Core i5 configurable to Intel Core i7, alongside 4GB of RAM that is configurable up to 8GB, Apple indicated on their official site. Internal storage options are at 128GB and 256GB. OS X El Capitan is the device's operating system.
Other Specs
Other specs included in the HP Envy 13 are: a Bang & Olufsen audio that promises enhanced audio quality, four USB 3.0 ports, an SD card reader, an HDMI port, 10 hours of battery life, and a fingerprint reader perfect for Microsoft's Windows Hello biometric login.
The MacBook Air boasts of up to 12 hours of battery life, Apple's website said. It has two USB 3 ports, a Thunderbolt 2 port, a MagSafe 2 power port, and an SDXC card slot in its 13-inch variant.

The HP Envy 13 will be available in select retailers beginning Oct. 18, and will start selling at an $849.99 price tag, Tech Times reported.
The MacBook Air, in contrast, starts selling at $899 and can reach up to $1199, Apple stated.
