iPhone 7 Release Date & Rumors: Apple's Next Phone May be Waterproof?

New reports have surfaced about Apple's rumored iPhone 7.

Expert Reviews reported that the iPhone 7 will be waterproof. This rumor first surfaced in 2014 when a patent was granted to Apple for a technology called Plasma-Assisted Chemical Vapour Deposition (PACVD) to coat the internal components of a device and make them water resistant.

With this method, the case of the handset doesn't have to be completely waterproof, which adds weight and mass and sacrifices the smartphone's design, the news outlet noted. While it's true that Apple files numerous patents (with only a few making its way commercially), the latest report holds truth in it because of the iPhone 6S' partial waterproof.

According to iFixIt, a teardown of the Apple's latest iPhone revealed a gasket around the rim sealing the device, and the logic board connectors had silicone waterproof seals. This could be the tech giant's preparation in launching a waterproof phone.

iPhone 7 Other Specs

Apple Insider reported from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that the next iPhone will only be between 6.0 and 6.5mm thick, which makes it around the same slim size of the iPod Touch and the iPad Air 2.

Business Weekly also said -- quoting Xiaru Wen, CEO of manufacturing industry Altek CEO -- that Apple has "been studying the dual lens" technology for three or more years. Altek manufactured HTC and Huawei's dual-lens cameras. With this, there's a possibility that the tech will be incorporated in Apple's future iPhones.

Kuo also said that there will be no new screen sizes for the iPhone 7, remaining the 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches in its predecessor, Know Your Mobile reported. Force Touch technology, gesture control support, better Touch ID, and sapphire display, are said to be included in the device, as well as another microphone added near the speaker to improve voice quality.

iPhone 7 Processor

IDigitalTimes reported from Weibo that the tech giant's next iPhone will be powered by an A10 chip with a powerful six-core processor, a significant improvement over the iPhone 6S' dual-core processing chip. Apple has remained with the dual-core processor since the A5 chip under the iPhone 4S' hood.

According to iDigitalTimes, multi-core processors allow devices to process more data and commands at the same time.

iPhone 7 Release Date & Price

PC Advisor claimed that the iPhone 7 will likely be released on Sept. 13, 2016 or the second Tuesday of the month, which follows Apple's usual timetable when it comes to releasing their new mobile devices. The handset is estimated to have a price tag of $819 for the 16GB variant, $940 for the 64GB, and $1061 for the 128GB.
