Jennifer Lopez Will Take on Hosting Duties at the 2015 American Music Awards
Jennifer Lopez is set to host the American Music Awards this year.
The Puerto Rican singer, actress, and producer is taking over hosting duties after Pitbull's two-year consecutive run as the annual awards show's host, ABC News reported.
The 2015 AMAs, which will air live on ABC from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Nov. 22, will mark Lopez's first time of hosting an awards show, the news outlet added. Dick Clark Productions also said on Wednesday that the 46-year-old entertainer will perform material from her upcoming Las Vegas residency called "All I Have" at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
Singers Joe Jonas and Charlie Puth will announce AMA nominees on Oct. 13 on ABC's "Good Morning America," NBC News reported. Six additional categories will be announced via SnapChat (TheAMAs) following the network's broadcast.
According to ABC News, nominees are picked based on album sales, radio airplay, touring, and social media presence. In addition, the show distinguishes artists with fan-voted awards in the pop/rock, rap/hip-hop, country, Latin, and adult contemporary categories.
Pitbull's 2013 debut as the AMAs host was met with mixed reactions but managed to return to the duty in 2014, NBC News noted. Lopez also performed a tribute to the late salsa singer Celia Cruz in Spanish at the 2013 AMAs, which also sparked controversy.
Lopez's Las Vegas residency kicking off on Jan. 20, 2016 promises to showcase the recording artist's pop and R&B style as well as fan favorites, the news outlet wrote. Lopez said in August that the upcoming show will feature "all of the different things" that she did musically, and her performances "on stage and award shows, and touring," Billboard reported.
"It's really an exciting prospect for me to create the quintessential Jennifer Lopez experience in Vegas," she told Billboard. "It's just an opportunity that is overwhelming and at the same time the most exciting thing that has happened to me in a long time, so I'm giving it all I have."
Lopez continued, "I am going to do what I think everybody has come to know me for. It is going to be glamorous and beautiful and the costumes and all of it. The production is something that I haven't gotten to do yet. So it's going to be me in my element doing what I do at the highest level and it's exciting."
Other scheduled dates for Lopez's Las Vegas residency are: 1/22, 1/27, 1/29, 1/30, 2/3, 2/5, 2/6, 2/9, 5/22, 5/25, 5/28, 5/29, 6/1, 6/3, 6/4, 6/8, 6/11 and 6/12, Billboard listed.
