Samsung Galaxy S5 Specs and Release Date Rumors: 2K HD Display Production Begins
The 2013 holiday season is still in full swing, but it looks like that hasn't slowed down Samsung from preparing for 2014. According to a new report, the South Korean electronics manufacturer has officially started mass producing 2K HD displays for the rumored Galaxy S5 smartphone.
Korean news outlet DDaily reports that Samsung has started the assembly lines for a 5.25-inch QHD 2K display that will presumably be used in the Galaxy S5. The impressive screen boasts a 2560X1440 display resolution that pushes out a whopping 560 pixels per inch. It's not the only 2014 smartphone rumored to feature a 2K HD screen, but at the moment, it's certainly one of the most anticipated.
While Samsung has not confirmed or denied the report, the information falls in line with earlier reports that Samsung would begin mass production of the Galaxy S5's display sometime during late December. Whispers in the technosphere hint that Samsung is interested in releasing the Galaxy S5 during Q1 2014 — a couple months before the usual timeframe for Galaxy S handsets — to try and offset what many consider poor Galaxy S4 sales in 2013.
Whenever it does release, the Galaxy S5 is speculated to sport a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor or a 64-bit Exynos processor (depending on the region), 3GB RAM, a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android 4.4 KitKat. The Galaxy S5 is also said to be coming in two versions: a premium model with a metal casing, and a normal variant in plastic shelling.
