Samsung Gear S2 Goes on Sale: Review, Price and Features
Samsung's newest smartwatch, the Gear S2, arrived on Friday and clearly amused users with its features.
According to Chosun, the watch is the first one from the company which sports a round face and a rotating bezel.
"The entire first 1,000 Gear S2s up for pre-sale on Sept. 18 were sold out within an hour," added the same report, indicating that Samsung fans indeed anticipated the release of the wearable device.
Users can utilize the watch using the Samsung Galaxy S3, Note 2 and even LG and Motorola smartphones running on an Android operating system.
Android Central clarified that the Gear S2 is compatible with any device running on Android 4.4 and up and has 1.5 GB of RAM at the minimum.
Other highlights of the device include the capacity to call, send texts and access social media applications.
In a review, GizMag detailed that that the newly-released watch has the most exciting software to navigate.
"On a practical level, the rotating bezel lets you navigate around the watch without blocking the (relatively) small screen with your fingers," added the same report.
This feature reportedly makes scrolling through menus easier.
Aside from this, the 1.2-inch was also lauded since it is just big enough to work on tasks on your wearable device, as per GizMag.
On the other hand, Droid Life noted that the watch also has an amazing feel and a great design.
In a similar report, Ars Technica added that this 3G version of the watch will also allow users to "access certain apps without the need to tether your smartphone."
It added that the 3G watch, as well as the non-3G version, will have features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC, which can be used for Samsung Pay.
Users would also love using this watch because it can last for 2 days without recharging and there is also an option to charge it "wirelessly."
Also, Gizmag said that another notable feature of the watch is its onscreen keyboard since the Apple Watch and other Android Wear devices do not have one.
"Typing on a tiny watch screen doesn't sound fun, but Samsung makes it work pretty well, with a phone-pad-like layout with three characters on each key (word recognition sorts out what you're trying to type)," added the same report.
The Gear S2 costs $299 while the smaller but dressier S2 Classic has a $349.99 price tag.
Revealed at the IFA 2015 in Berlin, the Samsung Gear S2 also has a dual-core, 1 GHz clock, 4GB storage space and 512GB RAM. Other useful features of the smartwatch are the accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, gyroscope and heart rate sensors.
