Floyd Mayweather Next Fight News: Amir Khan Will Force “Money” To Change Fighting Style
Floyd Mayweather has yet to announce his opponent for his next fight on May 3, but Amir Khan is reportedly on top of the list of Mayweather's potential opponents--a list which also includes Marcos Maidana.
Talking about the possible Mayweather-Khan showdown in May, Khan's trainer Virgil Hunter said that the former British champion Khan will be more than ready to face the reigning pound-for-pound king.
In an interview with Fighthype, Hunter revealed that Khan is working double time as part of his preparation for his upcoming fight, while also adding that they are looking forward to handing Mayweather the first defeat of his storied professional boxing career if the proposed fight is finalized.
"This is the first time he's committed to coming to camp in between fights and working on his game, and the improvement is dramatic, so we're looking forward to this fight and we're looking forward to winning that fight," Hunter said.
Hunter also played down the assessment of boxing experts that Mayweather will easily dispatch the Bolton native, saying that Khan's dedication and his vast improvement will make him a dangerous opponent for Mayweather, who could be forced by Khan to change his fighting style.
"I think that fight is gonna be much more dangerous for Floyd than maybe they realize," Hunter insisted. "Floyd's gonna have to fight a different fight than what he's been fighting. Is he capable of doing it? Yes. We're talking about Floyd Mayweather here and he has all of my respect, but that don't mean I don't want to beat him. I want to beat him. He has all of my respect and you can't take anything away from him, but I do want to beat him, and it would be great to see."
Hunter also cited Maidana's against the previously-unbeaten Adrien Broner. Broner was favored to win against Maidana, but the Argentine pulled off a huge unanimous decision victory to capture the WBA World Welterweight Championship.
Hunter reiterated that like Maidana, Khan, who is coming off a unanimous decision win over Julio Diaz in April, is also determined to prove his doubters wrong by becoming the first fighter to defeat Mayweather.
